Session 01: LINCD Phonetics! (Praat and its potential(s))

MALTT student Ben Jones will talk about deploying experiments through the interface of the Open Source phonetics software Praat. He will also discuss customized scripting to extend Praat’s capabilities. In addition, Dr. Cramer will show some of her data and work in Praat for her dialect research.

Session 02: LINCD Conferencing! (test-run presentation and conferencing tips)
[17 February 2014, 16:00 – 17:00]
MALTT student Lindley Winchester will give a test-run version of her conference presentation for the 4th Annual Jil Jadid Conference in Arabic Literature and Linguistics. Come give her support and feedback for the conference in Austin, Texas. The second half of the session will be devoted to discussion and advice on conferencing (everything from abstracts and their submission to presenting, networking, and generally maximizing your conference experience).

Session 03: LINCD Syntax! (Part I: the LKB system – session A)

Dr. Fabiola Henri will present the LKB system — a grammar and lexicon development environment for use with unification-based linguistic formalisms, i.e., a handy system for work with HPSG. LKB stands for Lexical Knowledge Builder and is a “Grammar Engineering Environment”.

Session 04: LINCD Syntax! (Part II: the LKB system – session B)

“Special” – Conference Prep – Brandon Jent
[24 March 2014, 13:00-14:00]
LIN major Brandon Jent will give a test-run version of his conference presentation, “Always “Chile”, never “Shile”: A pilot study on the hyper–correction of /tʃ/ in Chilean Spanish”. Come give him your professional support and feedback before he heads to the Southeast Conference on Linguistics in Myrtle Beach, 27-29 March 2014.

“Special” – Conference Prep – Ghazaleh Kazeminejad
[31 March 2014, 13:00-15:00]
MALTT student Ghazaleh Kazeminejad will give a test-run version of her conference presentation for the LLS 6 conference (Illinois Language and Linguistics Society 6). Come give her support and feedback before she heads to Urbana-Champaign, 4-6 April 2014.

Session 05: LINCD Syntax! (Part III: HPSG implementations)

Students from Dr. Hippisley’s Advanced Syntax class will be presenting computable implementations of Head-Driven Phrase Structure Grammar (HPSG).
