Session 01: LINCD Psychologically! (reading and the mind)

Dr. Robert Lorch, chair of the UK Department of Psychology, will discuss with us his work on text comprehension in reading and retrieval of information from reading. Come ready to discuss what we can learn about language and the mind through the study of reading.

LINCD Session (Spring 2015 – #2). Dr. Matthew Zook of the UK Department of Geography will discuss with us his work on the geoweb and new spatial media. Come ready to discuss the mapping of society, social trends, and social movements through the mining of language and language-related information from the social web.

Session 03: LINCD Intelligently! (formal representation of knowledge in artificial intelligence)

Dr. Mirosław (Mirek) Truszczyński of the UK Department of Computer Science will discuss with us his work on the formal representation of common/background knowledge in building intelligent computer systems. Come ready to discuss parallels to human assumptions of certain common/background information in human discourse strategies and in the pragmatics of human communicative interactions.
